Today we will elicit your background knowledge by exploring the ideas and underlyingcommunicative intention of visual texts and how these build stereotypes.

We will work with a set of images (in this case ads) and you will predict the message, the purpose and the manner in which these two are used to comply with the desired outcome.

Then, you will comprehensively read the text: “Making Sense of Advertising” (English B Course Companion Text, Oxford IB Diploma Programme) and finally, you will answer some display and referential questions by skimming and scanning the text.
